Description

If Windows 2000 becomes corrupted (e.g. during an update on Nice) it is possible to try to repair the files on the system disk before resorting to refomatting the harddrive and reinstalling Windows. The steps to perform this repair are:

1) Put the Windows 2000 CD into the CD drive. 2) Reboot using ctrl-alt-delete. 3) The system should boot off of the disk. If it doesn't you need to change the BIOS setting so that the system trys to boot from the CD drive before the hard drive. 4) When given the choice do not reinstall Windows instead select repair the system. You will be prompted to login and then a command prompt will appear. 5) At the prompt enter the following command:

chkdsk /f /r

6) chkdsk will ask if you want to do the check on the next reboot. Answer yes. 7) Reboot using ctrl-alt-delete. 8) Let chkdsk run on the next boot. BE PATIENT - on a large disk this will take some time. 9) After the computer reboots shut the system down. 10) Remove the Windows 2000 CD from the hard drive. 11) Cross your fingers and restart the system. If you are lucky, chkdsk will have solved the problem and the system will reboot from the hard drive.

It is also possible to use the Windows XP disk to this repair but the syntax of the chkdsk command is slightly different: chkdsk /p /r. If this syntax fails then try the syntax for Windows 2000 described above.

FP2000: Run-Time Error When You Submit a Form

The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft FrontPage 2000

This article was previously published under Q301071

SYMPTOMS

When you click the Submit button on a Web-based form, you may receive the following error message: FrontPage Run-Time Component Page. You have submitted a form or followed a link to a page that requires a web server and the FrontPage Server Extensions to function properly. This form or other FrontPage components will work correctly if you publish this web to a web server that has the FrontPage Server Extensions installed.

-----------------------------------------------------------

The problem could have been related to the recent frontpage server extension issues of Web7 we had before.

After looking in the Microsoft knowlegbase and found a KB-article:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;301071

It was sufficient to open the site with frontpage and to do the "Recalcualte Hyperlinks" from the Tools menu.

The form seems to work fine again now.

To solve problem of info not being displayed on the web:

We had another look at the form, it seems that non-displaying of form-entries was related to browser 'caching' of the page, These two lines have been added to the header of the page:
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Pragma" CONTENT="no-cache">
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Expires" CONTENT="-1">

To do so:

This should prevent caching and confusion.

one must ask for a new connection and at the bottom for "service type" say that you want an AN connection; in building 154, that's what will work.

The copydb.bat task would run properly interactively from a prompt command window but did not run from the scheduler. I changed running this task from pauline or trtbar account to running as administrator. Now this task runs properly.
